memorabilia, this rare complete set of W.D & H.O. Wills "Motor Cycles" tobacco cards will make a perfect edition to your collection.
This mint condition set of 50 cards from 1923 showcases the most famous British motorcycles of post WWI era. Cards include 50 brands including: Triumph, BSA, Royal Enfield, Matchless, Excelsior and Ariel. Each card comes with beautiful detailed color drawing of a brand's most famous model on the front side, and a description of the bike's popular features on the reverse. These cards, printed on thick board stock, played dual roles as advertisements for specific models and as collectible items to be displayed.
Example of a backside model description from Triumph:
"The Triumph Cycle Co. have earned a justifiable reputation for reliability of their products. The famous Model P. has a side-valve engine, Triumph three-speed countershaft gear, kick-starter, and all-chain transmission. The rear brake is applied to a dummy belt rim and the front brake is of the internal expanding variety".
How cool is that! Made especially for the serious motorcycle enthusiast.
As mentioned, this set has all the cards, which is quite rare, and is in gorgeous mint condition. Whoever collected these cards 97 years ago clearly valued them and kept them pristine. Every single card is crisp, with no scratches, smudges, creases or bent corners. These will be fantastic for displaying and would look amazing framed.
Original motorcycle advertising from this era can get pricey, especially for a mint piece. Makes this set a wonderful value. Imagine displaying these next to your other motorcycle memorabilia! Or if you are just starting out, can't beat starting with a rare piece in mint condition.
