Description
Amazing find here. Vietnam War era North Vietnamese Viet Cong poster. About 11 ¾ x 14 ½ inches. Original poster on what feels like thin cloth, probably handmade paper of some kind. I don’t think it’s original art but it doesn’t seem to be a simple print either. Maybe hand printed or block printing? I don’t know a lot about this but we did some on-line research. Day Manh San Xuat translates to Happy New Year (Tet!)… "san sang chien dau" translates to Ready for battle, or to fight, or march to battle…This information was obtained from the Australian War Memorial website: “Typical North Vietnamese propaganda posters encouraged equal opportunities for men and women in Vietnamese society. The female workforce was considered necessary in order to build the economy, and women were encouraged to educate themselves and contribute to production and the revolution. Agriculturally themed posters were common and representative of the farmers' dreams of triumph over the American enemy, having regained ownership of their own land. Throughout the Vietnam War, North Vietnamese farmers were encouraged to produce and harvest food, and be ready at all times to contribute to the war effort.”
This poster appears to cover most of that along with a military scene at the top.
