Features of the Nortel BCM 50 Phone System
The Business Communications Manager 50, came pre-loaded with hundreds of features and a full suite of integrated applications. As a small business phone system, it was created to grow along with your business. Most capabilities can be activate with a simple license key, if they are not part of the core functionality.
With more than 200 base features included with the system, Nortel designed the system to allow their customers to process calls with exceptional reliability, efficiency and flexibility. Owners of the BCM systems were sure that all callers received prompt, professional treatment. Further, employees enjoyed convenience, productivity and control features that reduced phone tag and frustration. One of the features that many of our customers took for granted, as an example, the system can put a call on hold to page a person, who can then pick up the call from any extension.
Voice Mail:
The Nortel BCM voice mail was a powerful system, greatly improving on the past Norstar Startalk system. Callers could leave important information in a mailbox for an individual user, a department or even a group of users. Various important information was added by the phone system such as call information, callere ID, time and date of the call and priority level. Personalized greetings could be recorded and password access to messages could be accessed from nearly anywhere. Mailboxes are virtually unlimited, as the Business Communications Manager 50 provides 100 hours of message storage.
Automated Attendant:
Callers could be routed to different departments or mailboxes according to time of day, day of week, holiday schedule and calling line ID. Unified Messaging was standard and included voice, fax and email messages onto users’ PCs or laptops, to be managed by one standard application, such as Microsoft Outlook or Exchange. With recent upgrades to Microsoft, patches are available to customers in order to keep the integration active, but the BCM must be running V6.
VoIP
:
The Nortel BCM supports powerful new VoIP applications that helped improve operations and customer service, cost-effectively extend network services to remote users, increase portability, simplify moves and changes, and eliminate toll charges for site-to-site calls.
Call Center:
An easy to deploy and use contact center was a hallmark of the BCM product line. While not a full application call center software, the system was more than adequate for most business applications where call center functionality was required. Calls were distributed among up to 10 active agents or designated employees, to create an order desk, reservations department, customer service group or technical support center. Two separate queues could be aligned with agent skills, so callers have an express lane to the right destination, and agents can give the best service.
Telephones for the BCM 50:
Phone sets compatible with the systems ranged from the old Meridian telephones and Nortel M series, to the newer Nortel T family of phones, along with a range of VoIP phones.
