TIDBIT: (following info research found online)
British heart surgeon Dr James Mackenzie (1853-1925) developed this ink-writing polygraph in 1906. A tambour (a rubber diaphragm) is placed over a vein in the neck, with while another one is placed on the arterial pulse in the wrist. The movements of these vessels vibrate the diaphragms. These transmit the waves through rubber tubing to two recording arms which record the pulse as continuous lines on paper. It detected problems such as an irregular heartbeat. Polygraphs were also used as lie detectors. Physiologists found lying could cause physical changes such as a faster heartbeat or increased sweating. Mackenzie’s polygraph measured and recorded these changes.
Dr James Mackenzie (1853-1925), later Sir James, had worldwide eminence as a cardio-vascular clinical investigator. For over 25 years he worked as a general practitioner in Lancashire and it was then that he made his pioneer studies, unaided, of the venous and arterial pulses. He did these with his own modification of the Dudgeon sphygmograph of 1882 which wrote on smoked paper. Afterward he invented the ink writing polygraph. He was the founder of 20th century British cardiology
1902, the ingenious Sir James invented the ink polygraph, with the aid of a Mr Shaw, a Burnley watchmaker. This device allowed 3 simultaneous tracings to be made on a long roll of smoked paper. With this instrument he was able to record and correlate the arterial and jugular pulses concurrently with the beat of the heart itself. He “brought order out of the chaos of cardiac irregularities,”2 distinguishing the inconsequential from those that were caused by serious organic heart disease. One positive outcome of his investigations was that his findings altered physicians’ attitudes to abnormal heart sounds and to some abnormalities of the action of the heart. Sir James’ work showed that these were not always cause for alarm

wooden case may be cedar? working slide latch / case has lid crack but, solid / other than that all is good with the case with normal age related / usage light scuffs, etc. - PLEASE, CONTACT FOR PHOTO AS I RAN OUT OF ROOM

activates rollers which in turn would have pulled paper through to print readings

activates the opposite thingie and what that does – sort of vibrates – haven’t a clue – sounds like a clock ticking and moves

PAPER ROLL with HOLDER ATTACHMENT:
paper has fused over time – holder fits into slot on main unit / roller of attachment is weighted / paper would have been fed through the rollers but, how or where the paper would become printed is a mystery / ink stains on exterior of unit

LONG ARM ATTACHMENT
:  disk would have had a membrane bladder diaphragm / a tube would have been attached to the side of the disk in turn the arm of the turntable would vibrate on the diaphragm.  Perhaps, another attachment of sorts would have fit through the vacant slot and line it up to the main unit and do something to make it print

WRIST UNIT
with LEATHER STRAPS
:  two leather wrist straps – one is still partially attached, the other is not / leather has dried over time / buckles remain intact.

2.75”diameter.  Again, possibly, a membrane bladder diaphragm and when fixed to wrist the spring nipple thing would supposedly pulsate matching the patient’s pulse – sending a reading through the attached air hose to the record player, etc. etc. to print
