    Description

    - ANESTHESIA Pamphlet Titled “THE ETHER DISCOVERY” -
    - FRONT Wrapper SIGNED by Physician “Charles T. Jackson” -
    - Jackson Claimed he DISCOVERED Anesthetic Effects of Ether -
    - DISCARDED by the “Sheppard Library College of Pharmacy” -
    ANESTHESIA related PAMPHLET
    titled
    “THE ETHER DISCOVERY”
    , which is genuinely
SIGNED / AUTOGRAPHED by CHARLES T. JACKSON
on the FRONT of the original printed wrappers as follows – “with the respects of C. T. Jackson”.   Jackson was embroiled in the much-publicized controversy with William T. G. Morton over who rightly deserved credit for the discovery of anesthesia.
Just above Charles T. Jackson’s signature is an
    original
    ink stamp
from the “SHEPPARD LIBRARY MASSACHUSETTS COLLEGE OF PHARMACY”
indicating that this pamphlet had been
    “DISCARDED”
.   This would indicate the pamphlet was
    “deaccessioned”
or officially removed from the library’s holdings, typically in order to be sold to raise funds.   There are also some hand-written numerals in ink in the top left hand corner of the pamphlet as follows – “100-183 Pam.13”.   These are likely catalog filing numbers from the library itself or some other sort of reference information used by them.  Directly below this, on the left side as well, are some notations in pencil – “19106 A, 66/30” – which may also be from the Sheppard Library or perhaps from a bookseller or dealer.
    The pamphlet is
    57 pages
    in
    length
    and was
electrotyped and printed by Rand, Avery & Frye of Boston
.  The FIRST page of this report reads –
“REPORT TO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, VINDICATING THE RIGHTS OF CHARLES T. JACKSON TO THE DISCOVERY OF THE ANAESTHETIC EFFECTS OF ETHER VAPOR, AND DISPROVING THE CLAIMS OF W. T. G. MORTON TO THAT DISCOVERY”
    .
    CHARLES T. JACKSON (1805 - 1880)
was an American physician who is probably best known for his claims that he was the first to discover the anesthetic effects of ether.

I have been buying + selling American historical autographs & documents for over 30 years and a former member of both the “Manuscript Society” and the UACC.  We ship everything INSURED (thru the USPS) with a value over .  This helps us know that the item you took the time to purchase arrived safely.  Packages are shipped out within 1 – 3 business days, but typically the next day.  Please understand, we do not make any money on shipping costs, but rather run a deficit over the course of a year.  Many people don’t realize that ebay deducts a FEE of 13.5% from BOTH the winning bid AND from my stated shipping charges (leaving about 87% of that shipping charge to be used for actual postage + insurance).  Everything we sell is packaged with the utmost care.  Please read my ebay feedback over the last 20 years.  The comments are often – the best packaging I have ever seen, “bullet proof” packaging, etc.
